LogicLine for Utilities
Netz Burgenland GmbH and Burgenland Energie AG are key players in Burgenland’s utilities sector. While Netz Burgenland is responsible for the reliable supply of electricity through an extensive network of power lines, Burgenland Energie offers comprehensive energy solutions for private and commercial customers. Both companies work hand in hand to strengthen the region’s infrastructure. Their expertise and commitment make them indispensable partners for the future of energy supply in Burgenland.
We were able to look over the shoulders of Thomas, service technician for 110 kV power lines, and Martin, fleet manager. We spoke to them about their tasks, challenges and the role that vehicle solutions play in this.
Flying high
Service technician Thomas has been working for Netz Burgenland since 1996. Training as an electrician is a basic requirement for the job. When asked what other skills you should have, Thomas smiles. ‘You should be free from dizziness,’ after all, climbing electricity poles is one of his regular tasks. The teams move at heights of up to 40 metres.
He remembers times when he was travelling with up to nine people. Back then, the vehicles were designed for team transport and the equipment was transported in a trailer. Today, the service technicians often work alone and the equipment is stored in the vehicle. The requirements for the vehicle fleet have changed accordingly.
‘If we have to, we drive everywhere,’ Thomas chats about his day-to-day work. So it’s hardly surprising that off-road vehicles such as pickups are used for this. The fact that these are even equipped with four-wheel drive would be less obvious on the Pannonian plain. The security of supply of the Burgenland electricity grid is a top priority, as it is one of the most reliable grids in Europe with 99.99 per cent availability. ‘In the event of grid failures, we have to be able to cope with any terrain – regardless of the weather and surface. Without four-wheel drive, you often don’t get very far on wet, muddy ground,’ he reports.
Thomas’ area of responsibility is at least as varied as the terrain. In addition to planned maintenance work and regular routine checks, there are always urgent assignments. Loading his pickup has to be quick and easy. This is where LogicLine solutions really prove their worth.

PickUp System PS-200
The PickUp System from LogicLine ensures that everything stays in its place in the vehicle during demanding missions across the wilderness. Every pickup is equipped in the same way – in the event of a swap, all team members can find their way around in every vehicle.
Thomas and his colleagues use the rear wall of the large full-length compartment at the front to attach a large torch with charger and an inverter.
The drawer container is used to store items such as toolboxes, rulers and flashing lights, but it also proves its worth for document folders in everyday work.
The long item carrier, which was developed in this form as a special solution for Netz Burgenland, has space for ladders and the frequently used earthing rods. ‘When you switch off a line and work on it, you have to earth and short-circuit it,’ Thomas explains. And that requires quite a lot of equipment!
Another plus point according to Thomas: the aerodynamic properties are optimal and the design blends in nicely with the vehicle’s appearance. We love hearing this feedback. 🙃
Load securing? LogicLine
The topic of load securing is not only a legal requirement, but also an essential safety aspect at Burgenland Energie. ‘Our vehicles have to meet the requirements of the terrain and at the same time ensure the safety of the load and the employees,’ emphasises Martin.
The trained car mechanic, who also worked in parts management and purchasing for a long time, has found a new challenge as fleet manager. The fleet of around 612 vehicles demands a great deal of support from him and his colleagues.
Together with the service technicians, he consults on the required vehicles and bodies, handles procurement and also looks after the fleet. His credo: everyone should be satisfied with their vehicle. An ambitious goal that requires good co-operation with suppliers.
It is important for us to have a partner who can react quickly, who can handle the bodywork for us and who is reliable. With LogicLine, the overall package simply fits. We were also impressed by the outstanding quality. And that obviously doesn’t just apply to us. Almost every flatbed we see on the road is equipped with LogicLine.

PickUp Heavy Duty Drawer PSL-250
Convenient loading and unloading is particularly important to Thomas. That’s why the VW Amaroks are also equipped with the PickUp Heavy Duty Drawer. Up to 250 kg can be practically pulled out here. With the included lashing rails and the anti-slip floor plate, it is a real all-rounder on the loading area.
We have also fitted the pull-outs with side panels especially for the requirements of Netz Burgenland.
Just get in and start
‘I’m sometimes on the road all week without returning to the site. From personal protective equipment, tools, materials and my belongings to a mobile office with a laptop, tablets and document folders, everything is transported in the vehicle,’ explains Thomas. ‘I want to load everything in comfortably and not have to worry about securing the load,’ the service technician emphasises before setting off on his next assignment.
After our day with Thomas and Martin, we know: There’s quite a lot to do here so that we can enjoy the convenience of a reliable power grid. It’s great to be part of it with LogicLine.
